Ah Girl Scout cookie season. Such a trying time for me since I have 2 nieces who sell their wares to us - we're powerless to fight off the temptation of the GSCs. I always think to myself that I'm sure that the troop would prefer that I just give them the 50 bucks outright and not buy cookies with it. They would make more money off me that way. However, I feel like I'm taking away from the whole experience for the girls if they were not able to get "credit" for boxes of cookies towards their rewards based on how many boxes they sell and the bonus money they make if they reach a certain goal. I have always been curious to know exactly how much money they make off the cookies per box and how much of that goes to actually supporting the Girl Scouts. I'm sure that information is out there but I'm not going to look right now.
Well back to the topic at hand - cookies. I think that everyone has their favorite GSCs. I personally love the trefoils and the Thin Mints. Something about them make me think of when I was little - those seemed like the only ones that my mom would buy. I think that they are the simplest cookies and are very good. I also like samoas - those are some tasty cookies for sure. I am sure that I could eat a whole box in one sitting. Thankfully I have not done so (yet). I also like the peanut butter sandwich cookies but I cannot stand the peanut butter cookies covered in chocolate. I dont know what they do to those poor cookies but they taste like....chemicals....or something like that to me. Horrible aftertaste. Not a perfect calorie.
Here is what I hate about GSCs - look at the side of the box. The Ingredients in these cookies make my heart palpitate. They are horrible for you! Lots of saturated fats, hydrogenated oils I was surprised to see that they actually use sugar instead of HFCS - I'm sure that they will find a way to get HCFS into those cookies somehow. I feel guilty when I eat them because I know that they are really not very good for you. I know, I know nothing is bad for you in moderation but I'm sure that I could make most of these cookies without the use of some of these ingredients because I don't have to bake them and find a way to keep them fresh for many moons. I wish they could find a way to make these cookies with fewer "bad" ingredients and make them somewhat better for you. I suppose that is asking alot when they are trying to make a nice margin on them.
So anyway - todays perfect calorie goes out to the thin mint cookies that I ate. They were good but for some reason they never taste as good as I remember them.
